Cindy J. Smith has done it again. She's captured my heart and bound my soul with her Rhymes Through Time poetry. It amazes me how she can look at the smallest of things and through her creative imagination turn them into poetic phrase which entices my soul. I read Ms. Smith's poetry aloud; perhaps that is why I am so drawn to her style because her words come alive as if I'm listening to my favorite list of songs. Favorite? All of them but perhaps the most visual for me was The Mist. Truly I felt as though I was standing on the cliffs near the ocean with the forest to my back as I watched the sun set. Thank you again Ms. Smith for sharing your "songs" with us, for giving me the inspiration I needed so badly. Your "voice" is music to my ears and soul.

This author is a word wizard..You should be so lucky to draw a parallel to her mind and thoughts of life lived daily..
As always, do not let my star count override your judgement of content. More on the stars, counting, and my rating challenges later.

Of thirty-nine poems, eight or so are from other collections. I will comment on the new ones, which are gentle and seductive. From the opening poem, Sleep, you will be introduced to Smith’s ‘voice’. This is followed by whimsy in Rooster, where we find this “Proud rooster calls out /To fairies and elves /Brownies and pixies /Hurry! save yourselves //The sun is rising /New day will begin /Humans will soon be /Appearing again.”

For philosophy, turn to Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow where we find this “If I start to live /Today with light heart /Tomorrow would have /A much better start.”

Some of the poems are intensely personal, as Cages, a favourite here. Unable to give a feel for this poem without quoting most of it, I give no spoilers here. Get the book and turn to this page.

The writing is clever with nice images, as in Can You Hear, this “Can you hear laughter /Riding on the breeze? /Feel how it tickles /It's way through the trees.”

Those scrolling for the tiny carps can give up here. Maybe a typo. Back to the good stuff.

For a fine personal poem, turn to How Many, where we find this “How many lies /Must be believed /Before admit /I've been deceived //How many cracks /Will my heart take /Before it just /To pieces breaks.”

Finally, for more whimsy and a fun sustained metaphor, turn to Fisher Poet.

Given all that, how do I come up with four stars? My personal guidelines, when doing an ‘official’ KBR review, are as follows five stars means, roughly equal to best in genre. Rarely given. Four stars means, extremely good. Three stars means, definitely recommendable. I am a tough reviewer. This is nice work, very enjoyable. Four stars it is, and highly recommended.

More awesome poems from Cindy. I love her work. It can make you laugh, cry, and smile all at the same time.
Once again I am happy to have been able to read this book. Cindy writes from the heart. I havent been this into a poet since Poe. I am so glad that I have found her.
Rhymes Through Time is a wonderful new collection of poetry by Cindy J. Smith. Every time that I read one of these works, I am amazed at how deeply Smith looks into events, emotions, even scenery with just a few words. Again, it would be impossible to choose my favorite, but this entire collection will travel with me in my heart. Smith is definitely today's poet.
I absolutely love Cindy's work!! This book like her other two (They Won't Shut Up and Voices in My Head) is beautifully written strait forward loving and heartfelt poems. It is obvious that she writes about every day feelings, situations and experiences of every day life which not only happen to her but happen to all of us or at least someone we know.
This is a definite must read!!!
I am always excited to pick up this author's poems and read her books. I get gitty, like a little school girl when this author publishes a new book of poems. I must say this book of poems is by far my favorite yet. She pours out her heart and soul into these poems and I feel the words as they connect with me and come off the page at me. These poems dragged me in from the first sentence to the very first poem and as always I was sad when the book ended, but I will be coming back from time to time to re-read and will be just as entranced as from the first time I read them. I can't wait to see what else this talented author has in store for us. I highly recommend this wonderful book of poetry.
