Fast, toe curling, action, characters that you fill fall in love with and relate to, a plot that keeps you glued to your book. I absolutely love Kaylea Cross' style of writing, and her romantic suspense and military stories are some of my all time favorite ones.
The suspense in the story built through the tale, and the tension get higher as the story progresses. The plot is well thought out, there's twists, and combinations, that puzzle your mind, and the interest to the story doesn't fade through the book.
I love the team, how seamlessly they work together, the brotherhood between them, and the complete support they give each other. I enjoyed that the other team members also get a voice and a point of view in the story, where it is appropriate, and fits into the plot.
What makes a difference in the story, is that the villain, or one of them, also gets his point of view, his story, past, present, emotions, anger, and hopes for the future, are also part of the whole. As a reader, I got a connection with him, understood his reasons, his goals, and why he was in the situation he was in. That gave the story deeper dimensions in my mind, and to the climax of the action, a different kind of reaction, emotional connection.
The romance between Ethan and Marisol is passionate, yet adorable. I loved them together, the tender sweetness, the steaming adoration, the understanding, the need to protect and take care of, the desire and will to make it work, and built a future together. Yes, the steam of the ereader's screen, but it was beautifully done, and so fitting to the story.
Delightful and charming characters, you want to spend time with, action that takes your mind to the edge, romance that makes you sigh and swoon, absolutely five spoons deserving romantic suspense!

Would have been a 5 is El Santo lived. I don't think I have cheered for a bad guy more than him! Please, please, please say that he is hauled away and is saved, somehow. (Ooh, secretly saved and now works with the government in bringing down terrorists, great spin off idea for him & Georgia to get back together and work on the right side of the law). You knew the other two were going to get their HEA. I mean come on Miguel only killed bad guys anyways. He also saved Marisol's life twice! I love this type of plot though, where they've known each other since childhood. Although I could have done without Marisol trying to be tough & brave. I mean she couldn't even climb a tree, how did she think she could fight trained killers. Take it from marine, know your limitations, and then conquer them by any means necessary! Semper Fi leathernecks. And as for the next book in the series... I say bring it cowboy!

Ethan thought of her like a little sister, someone he needed to protect. Years later when he goes home to visit his mom, he is surprised how grown up and beautiful she is. When a hit is put on Marisol, Ethan's protective instincts kick into high gear. When she is kidnapped, a very unlikely source helps her escape. Can Ethan get to her before it's too late?
Marisol Lorenzo is an Assistant District Attorney and right now she is working on her biggest case, which is to take the Fuentes Clan to justice. Of course she is aware of the risks involved but little does she know how dangerous her opponents really are. Ethan Cruz knows exactly which dangers Marisol will have to face and he wants to protect the girl with which he grew up in the same rough neighborhood. He hasn't seen Marisol in four years and now the little girl has become an attractive young woman. On the other hand, Marisol always loved Ethan and now she has decided to act upon her feelings.

As a big Kaylea Cross fan I was a bit disappointed in this book. Although the plot was fast paced, and well balanced between suspense and romance part, the book didn't really take off. At some point I even thought that Julie's and Miguel's story overshadowed the main plot and main characters.

There was definitely chemistry between Ethan and Marisol. Their romance was very sweet and of course there were your classical Cross bedroom scenes (thank you very much!) but I missed the passion and sizzling atmosphere between them.

In any case a nice read and for fans of the series an absolute must!
I love KC books. She creates manly men that are so unbelievably hot you just have to have more. I have not liked all the books in this series and there are some I haven't even read but after reading the blurb on this one I knew it would be up my alley. The idea behind the book is girl grows up with hot neighbor (Ethan) but he doesn't return the obsession. It broke my heart when Marisol brought a plate of cookies as a surprise when he came home on leave and Ethan was getting it on with another girl. To make it worse she had to listen to the whole tale when she recapped it. This took place before this story unfolds it was something this reader could have done without. There was also something about Ethans attitude towards Soli being a virgin as well. Don't get me wrong I loved Ethan but the man didn't want to offer her anything long term but the thought of being where no man had been before took precedence. So grateful when the author softened him up and brought out a man in love versus lust. You knew he was in there it was getting him to come out. I also found myself wanting a different outcome for the villain. Yes he was a bad man but when this other side started to come out due to a woman's love that hopeless romantic wanted to see a changed man in a later book. This was a great action packed romance just took a little while for the romance to really start. Enjoy!
